Roshni Kitchen is governed by a board of trustees made up of 12 South Asian women with an array of skills and experience and from a wide range of backgrounds. We have a number of former service users on the board that bring their lived experience to the team . Trustees are elected annually from the general membership and each member is elected for a three year term so that there is a gradual turnover of a third of the committee every year. Diversity is proactively sought on the trustee board and this is reflected in terms of backgrounds, languages, ethnicity, age and levels of education. The broad representation of members ensures that the centre is representative of the different Asian communities in Sheffield and they all fully participate in the decision-making process regarding the management and development of the organiation. The officer positions amongst the Management Committee, that of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. A certain level of capacity building is required by some of the newer members who were formally service users.
Our chair of trustees has significant experience in leading organiations and multiple project management. She is currently a senior council Housing officer and has a background in refuge work and supporting women fleeing domestic Abuse. Our vice chair is a lecturer at a local college and has years of experience of adult education and training. Our secretary is a former service user as well as an author in her own right, and has an excellent understanding of the needs of local women in the community. Likewise, the rest of the trustees are from a broad section of the local Asian community and have a vast array of skills, experience and representation that they bring to the board.
Roshni is an independent voluntary organiation and a registered charity, with an established track record in managing projects of this kind. It is a membership organisation and currently has 500 members.
